Oh Rombauer, How I Love Thee!0
Amazing Grapes recognizes the love people have for these excellent wines. We bring them in and sure enough, they seem to depart just as quickly. I wanted to know more about these wines, and what makes people walk right in asking us to point them in the direction of these gems; so in my research (and tasting) I have found why people adore these wines. They are all absolutely unique and delicious each in their own way!
I would be selfish to keep this knowledge of why people love them to myself, so I wanted to share with you some of the varieties we carry so you too can see why you should head on over to pick up a bottle… or two! Before I divulge my findings, I have to let you know that Amazing Grapes loves you for choosing us to buy these wines here, so we are hosting a Rombauer tasting on Thursday 2/14 and Saturday 2/16! For $25, you will be able to taste all the selections we carry. Now that my friends, is really amazing; but hurry because reservations fill up quick!
Well, back to Rombauer and all of its greatness; let’s start with the most popular Rombauer Chardonnay. We carry the 2011 vintage and within this bottle you will find a rich yellow color that becomes more golden with age. Inviting fruit aromas of honeydew, yellow peach and fig are supported by vanilla and caramel. Creamy vanilla integrates with honeysuckle, pineapple and apricot for a fabulous richness on the palate. A luscious mouth-feel leads to a generous and creamy finish. A wonderful recommendation of food pairings would be salmon fettuccine with peas, burrata with arugula salad, roasted turkey and fried green tomatoes.
The Rombauer Zinfandel is also wonderful. In its 2010 vintage you will discover a dark purple color with a vivid red hue. A blast of concentrated dark berry fruit bursts from the glass. As if to extract the true essence of a blackberry, layered with dried cranberry and orange zest, this wine is asking to be consumed. Mouthwatering boysenberry jam and a touch of spice coat the palate. With lingering berry fruit, the wine invites you to enjoy the experience all over again. You can match this heavenly wine with creamy artisan cheeses, curry baked chicken and bittersweet chocolate tart.
Up next in the spotlight is our 2009 Rombauer Merlot. This lovely wine has a deep ruby color with a crimson hue. Subtle nuances of cherry and mint aromas support an abundance of mulberry and plum fruit. A soft and supple bouquet of lush plum, cedar and hints of blackberry are framed with silky tannins. Blueberry essence builds on the back palate for a smooth finish. I would say you might pair this with veal parmigiana, chicken marsala over polenta and butternut squash soup.
And last, but definitely not least is our 2009 Rombauer Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark plum color with a tinge of crimson red will greet your eyes. An opulent bouquet of blackberry, red currant, plum and dark cherry fruit emerge from the glass. Black currant, cherry and spice intertwine for an exceptionally balanced palate. Smooth tannins help build depth on the back palate for a lengthy finish, rich with creamy vanilla and blackberry. It is most common to pair this luscious wine with grilled fillet mignon and sautéed spinach, marinated flank steak and summer squash or soft artisan cheeses.
It’s overwhelming, isn’t it?
